The world’s most-wanted drug lord, JoaquinEl ChapoGuzman has been re-arrested for a third time in a daring raid on Friday by the Mexican marines, six months after he made his second scandalous prison break.

The Mexican president, Enrique Pena Nieto announced the re-capture of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, via his Twitter handle.

“Mission completed: we’ve got him. I’d like to inform the Mexicans that Joaquin Guzman Loera has been detained, Enrique Pena Nieto tweeted.

El Chapo (aka “Shorty”) is considered to be Mexico’s top drug lord and head of the Sinaloa cartel. The US Drug Enforcement Administration has called El Chapo the biggest drug lord of all time. In 2011 he reportedly surpassed the infamous “cocaine king” Pablo Escobar. He was wanted by Mexico, Interpol and the US, which had offered a $5 million reward for any information leading to his capture.
It would be recalled that the world's most wanted man, was first arrested in 1993 and was detained for almost a decade in a maximum-security prison near Mexico City before he made an epic escape in 2001.After 13 years on the run,El Chapo was re-captured in 2014.
However, on July 11, 2015, he made another jail break breakout after he was held for less than 18 months. He was said to have escaped He escaped through a 1.5-kilometer long, 10-meter deep tunnel dug from within his cell, despite being incarcerated in the country’s highest-security federal prison.
Guzman was reportedly apprehended after a shootout with the Mexican security agents in Los Mochis, a seaside city in Guzman’s home state of Sinaloa, said a federal official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to be quoted by name. He said Guzman was taken alive and was not wounded.
Five people were killed and one Mexican marine wounded in the clash at a house. It was unclear if Guzman was there or nearby when the raid was under way. Another law enforcement official made a conflicting statement, he said, Guzman was captured at a motel on the outskirts of Los Mochis.
The United States Of America has sought his extradition, though Mexico in time past past has said he would serve sentences in Mexico.
